The “D” Word That Changed My Business & Life
I kept breaking promises to myself... here’s how I changed that + my biggest business shift yet
Hellooo from Lisbon!! I hope you had a great week + weekend!
This week, I want to talk about the scary D word (discipline 😨) and share some resources to help you sustainably grow your business — without feeling like you’re constantly forcing yourself to do things you don’t want to do. Let’s dive in!
Real Talk…
In an online world full of highlight reels, let’s get real and dive into the authentic, unfiltered realities of entrepreneurship and being a founder. Here are some behind-the-scenes musings and reflections from my past week… ⬇️
How Running Rebuilt My Self-Trust
I’m in Lisbon this weekend with my partner and London friends because we’re running a half-marathon!! By the time you read this, I (hopefully) would’ve crossed the finish line in one piece — and I’ll probably be in the middle of a well-deserved 100-minute massage 💆🏻♀️
I used to run in my early 20s but stopped because of knee pain, which eventually turned into:
❌ “Oh, I just can’t run anymore, I have a bum knee.”
❌ “Yeah, I’m not really a runner.”
But when I turned 30, I had a wake-up call. I never actually injured my knee — it was just weak, and I needed to strengthen my legs and improve my running form. I also wanted to prove to myself that being 30 didn’t mean I was ‘too old’ to be in peak athletic shape.
So, I challenged myself to start running again. And while I won’t romanticize running with talk of “runner’s high” (because let’s be real, I still end most runs sweaty, tomato-faced, and out of breath 😅), what I will say is that running has completely transformed my mental resilience — and my relationship with discipline.
The Dreaded D Word = Discipline
I’ve always had a complicated relationship with discipline. On one hand, every successful person I look up to has it — top athletes, CEOs, high-performing entrepreneurs.
On the other hand, I’ve struggled with how to make discipline work for me — as someone who’s trying to live an intentional lifestyle and is mindful of my body’s natural rhythms (e.g. avoiding HIIT during my luteal phase). So for years, I just went with the flow and did things whenever I felt like it.
But here’s the thing:
Motivation is fleeting. Inspiration is fleeting. And as someone who runs my own business, I cannot rely on only doing things when I “feel” like it.
Because some days, I don’t feel like showing up.
Some days, I don’t feel like pushing through a run when it’s cold and raining.
But if I let feelings dictate my actions, I won’t get the results I want.
Shifting My Perspective on Discipline
Recently, a mentor shared something that completely shifted how I think about discipline:
💡 Discipline is simply carrying out promises you make to yourself.
Think about it. When you make a promise to a loved one, you do everything you can to keep your word because you respect them.
So why do we break promises to ourselves so easily?
Why do we say: “I’ll eat healthier,” “I’ll wake up earlier,” “I’ll meditate before checking my phone” — only to break those commitments at the first sign of resistance?
That conversation completely changed my mindset around discipline. So this year, I’ve committed to prioritizing the promises I make to myself — because when I do, I also become a better person to those around me.
How I Made Discipline Work as a “Soft Girl”
Training for this half-marathon has shown me that discipline doesn’t have to be all-or-nothing.
We tend to take an extreme approach:
☠️ Wake up at 5 AM every day
☠️ Work out every single day
☠️ Meditate for 30 minutes without fail
…
But that’s not sustainable.
Instead, I’ve started setting realistic promises and reminding myself why I’m doing something — even when I don’t feel like it.
🗓 Making a Plan (But Staying Flexible): I had ChatGPT generate my training plan with weekly mileage and strength workouts. But instead of rigidly sticking to it, I listened to my body — if I was sore, I moved my runs around, stretched, or booked a sauna appointment instead.
🍷 Setting Myself Up for Success: I cut down on alcohol before long runs (not that I drink much anyway, but I noticed it really helps!) If you’re trying to wake up earlier, prioritizing your circadian rhythm will be a game-changer.
🔁 Repetition Makes It Easier: I structured my week so that running, Pilates, and circuit training became routine — when something is automatic, it requires less willpower.
📅 Making It Hard to Quit: I booked classes with cancellation fees (because I will not let that money go down the drain 😂), and I scheduled long runs with my partner and friends for accountability.
In My Era of Keeping Promises to Myself
Running this half-marathon has been proof that when I stop making excuses and actually commit to something, I can make it happen.
And when you trust yourself to follow through on your own commitments, it builds confidence — not just in running, but in business, relationships, and life.
So if there’s something you want to do but keep making excuses for, consider this your sign to start. You can be the person who follows through — whether it’s in business, fitness, or any goal that matters to you.
And if I can do it with my so-called “bum” knee (😂), trust me — you can too!! 🤍
P.S. I curated a pretty good running playlist (if I do say so myself) so if you need some music to distract yourself as you’re dying running, you can listen here 🎧️
Let’s Build Your Sustainable Sales Funnel in Just 60 Minutes
Yes, Seriously — No Ads, No Extra $$$, No Menty B’s Required
Since we’re talking about discipline and setting yourself up for success, let’s apply that to your business — specifically, your sales and revenue.
Bringing in new ideal clients, nurturing them, and making offers is something you need to do consistently. But if you’re doing this manually every single day — constantly trying to attract new people, warm them up, and sell — it’s exhausting (and honestly, unsustainable).
That’s why having a sustainable sales system and funnel running in the background is a game-changer.
This shift has been the biggest upgrade in my business 2.0 — ensuring I’m consistently marketing and selling without burning out.
That’s how I made $20,000 in January while vacationing in the French Riviera — and how I signed two more clients right after I got back.
But here’s the thing: it took me over 5 years to figure this out.
And I don’t want you to spend that long. That’s why I’m hosting the Ultimate Sales Workshop: Sales on Easy Mode, to build your sustainable sales funnel in just 60 minutes.
No extra $$$.

Real Growth…
To be the best founder possible, continuous learning and growth are essential. Don’t let yourself become the bottleneck in your business! Here are some self-development resources I found valuable this past week... ⬇️
YouTube Video: I know a lot of you are in the middle of launching (or gearing up to sell something soon), so ahead of my Sales on Easy Mode Workshop, I wanted to share this week’s YouTube video: How to Prevent Your Launch From Flopping.
Trust me, I’ve had my fair share of launches that didn’t exactly go as planned (aka... completely flopped), and I wish I knew what I’m sharing in this video back then.
The good news? A flopped launch doesn’t mean failure — it just means a learning opportunity. You can turn things around, improve, and keep launching smarter. So don’t stress! Watch the video, take some notes, and let’s set you up for success ✨
Podcast Episode: And since we’re on the topic of discipline, I have to give a shoutout to Jimmy aka Mr. Beast.
To be honest, I don’t really vibe with his content and I never paid much attention to his chocolate brand, Feastables. But after listening to his interview on The Diary of a CEO, I have so much respect for his work ethic.
Steven, the host of DOAC, shared that Jimmy was filming the finale of Beast Games (one of the biggest shows on Amazon Prime) until late into the night. And instead of canceling his interview on DOAC, he simply asked if they could record at 1:00 AM instead.
So they recorded the episode from 1:00 AM to 3:00 AM (Steven said this was the latest he’s ever done an interview lol), and after that, Jimmy still had the energy to take Steven to a corner shop and passionately explain the entire chocolate industry to him.
Now I have no desire to live Jimmy’s chaotic lifestyle, but his level of dedication is unmatched. It’s a reminder that if you’re truly obsessed with something — whether it’s your business, your craft, or your goals — there’s no way you won’t succeed.
And on the flip side, if your latest YouTube video flopped or your Instagram post didn’t get the engagement you wanted — yeah, it sucks, but it’s all part of the process**.**
When I heard that Jimmy spent thousands upon thousands of hours just figuring out how to make YouTube videos work, it hit me: I’m still in my learning phase, and that’s okay.
So if you needed a sign to keep going, this is it. Discipline is powerful, and your time will come.
Real Self-Care…
Sustainable success can only happen if you take care of yourself. Self-care is not selfish — it’s necessary. Here are some self-care tools to recharge and stay balanced this week... ⬇️
Self-Care Challenge: This week, I challenge you to treat yourself to something you’ve been wanting for a while — guilt-free. Whether it’s a fancy latte, a cozy afternoon off, or a full-blown spa day, consider this your official permission slip to indulge.
For me that meant a glorious 100-minute massage to celebrate finishing my half-marathon 😌💅
Journal Prompt: What promises do I want to keep to myself? How can I set myself up to actually follow through on them?
Andd that’s it for this week! Have another great week!! 🤍
