Taking a 2-Week Vacation in the Middle of January...
How I'm making my business around my life and work + travel tips
As I write this, I’m officially back in Europe, and more specifically, I’m in Barcelona! My sister and I are going to a paella cooking class soon and I could not be more excited. (If you followed my Southern Spain adventures in November, you’ll know I had a couple of days where I inhaled a paella at every meal, so I am really looking forward to learning how to make them hehe) 🥘✨
I’m excited to spend lots of quality time with my sister before she starts a new job in the States. Since she’ll be tied to her company for the next four years, we’ll probably only see each other a handful of times a year after this. That’s why it was so important for me to carve out this time to be with her — even if it meant stepping away during one of the busiest times for my business.
But honestly, what’s the point of running your own business if you can’t make it work around your life?
Also honestly speaking though, this trip is a big step for me. In the past, I would’ve panicked, cancelled everything, and gone full “work mode.” Now, I’m challenging myself to prioritize what truly matters and lean into my entrepreneurship era of designing a business that fits my life — not the other way around.
I know many of you also dream of working while travelling, and let me be real: it’s harder than it looks. The digital nomad lifestyle is so glamourized, but after 3+ years of trial, error, and a lot of lessons learned, I feel like I’ve finally cracked the code ⬇️
My Golden Rules for Balancing Work & Travel
Never launch while travelling. Seriously, just don’t. Launches are stressful enough without timezone differences and patchy Wi-Fi.
Define the intention of the trip. Ask yourself: is this a work-focused trip where I’ll prioritize one client or project? Or is this a personal trip to unplug, spend time with loved ones, and handle only essential tasks like client messages?
Prepare in advance. Schedule content, make sure your sales funnels are running, and give clients and team members a heads-up ahead of time.
For this trip, my focus is on unplugging and creating memories with my sister. From a business perspective, my main priorities are:
Supporting my clients by answering questions over Slack
Capturing content because Spain and France are gorgeous backdrops
Decompressing to allow space for creativity and inspiration
Sustainable Growth in Action
It’s taken me years to feel confident taking a trip like this without guilt or panic. But with a sustainable growth mindset, I’ve built systems that work for me, not against me.
When I first started scaling my previous business, I wish I’d had a playbook to help me manage product development, marketing, sales, launches, and self-care. Soooo, I created one:
✨ Sustain Your Success is my private podcast with 28+ episodes covering the strategies, systems, and mindset shifts you need to build a business that works for you.
From product suite design to sales funnels to taking intentional time off, this is the resource I wish I had back then. Hearing your feedback been so heartwarming 🥺⬇️
